What is a multi-species coop? Rotational grazing offers the best solution to long-term pasture health. Raising different species on the same pasture decreases risk of disease and overgrazing. Livestock can be raised together or species can be rotated independently. When considering the location for a multi-species coop consider all species needs and try to find the most suitable location for all.

The design of this coop is fairly simply and can be expanded or contracted to meet the needs of the population. For this post we will take into consideration a small farm operation with 125 laying hens, 10 sheep, 10 pigs, and 400 broiler birds. All of these animals can be rotated through this coop and the size can accommodate the numbers listed for each. Typically the most needy animal will be the laying hens so we will consider them during the instructions for installation. See the notes for tips throughout the post for other livestock species.
